LOCATION

ROATAN, HONDURAS, BAY ISLANDS

Roatán is an island about 65 kilometres off the northern coast of Honduras. It is located between the islands of Útila and Guanaja. 

The largest of the three islands, Roatan is 77 kilometres long and 8 kilometres at it’s widest point. Many travellers take advantage of the breath-taking coral reef, easily accessible from the beautiful white sand beaches.

 

Roatán is characterized by its mountainous backbone, composed of hilltops that run west-to-east across the entire island. 

Unalome Yoga Roatan is perfectly located between the white sandy beaches of West Bay and the vibrant community of West End.

Here you will encounter traditional Garifuna communities, islanders, mainland Spanish, a Czech village, expats, and tourists.

National and International travellers typically arrive via our international airport (RTB) or by ferry from the mainland. From Roatan, the other islands are easily accessible.

The communities of Roatan are alive with local and international talent. Weekly artisan markets bring together the wide variety of art and music offered throughout the island.

In West End, you can walk along the road or beach and enjoy the view, gift shops, local restaurants, bars and more.

 

In Roatan you will meet visitors from all over the world while experiencing the local culture. Many of the local art, music, and artisan products can be found at Unalome Yoga Roatan.

FLORA & FAUNA

A wide range of fruit plants can be found on the island such as guava, papaya, banana, mango and so many more.

The animals of Roatan include opossum, white-tailed deer, over 40 species of reptiles, including the endangered Hawksbill turtle.

Coral reef restoration projects and other environmental programs are in place through the dive shops to create a healthy and happy reef for all locals and visitors. 

Unalome is nestled peacefully in the jungle, making it an ideal spot for sighting many of the native plants and animals of Roatan.

ACTIVITIES

Diving the beautiful Mesoamerican Reef is a highlight for many travellers, but that is certainly not all Roatan has to offer.

 

Water sports include relaxing on the white sandy beaches, snorkelling just off shore, paddle boarding, kayaking, glass-bottom boat, mangrove tours, fishing, and more!

 

For those who prefer to stay on dry land, Roatan has amazing zip-line canopy tours, eco-trails, animal sanctuaries with sloths, monkeys, birds, etc., world class spas and much more.
